the best thing at the ed tech conference

I'm in Columbus for a three day ed tech conference. Three days. I seem to remember stressing that I really needed to attend all three days. Don't get me wrong, I love all things tech. You wave anything shiny and electronic in front of me and I'm asking Pat if we can get it. But I digress. Luckly I like to wander around whenever I'm in a new place. I remember seeing a sign for a topiary garden just off downtown, the last time I was here. Well, I found it and what a wonderful place it is. I stand in awe of this art form. The amount of work involved is amazing. You can see and feel the people in the scene that's been created. Pat doesn't let me prune. She says I don't know what I'm doing. I tell her that I can hear the bushes screaming.

Ducks. If there is water, I can find ducks.

Topiaries in the water??? Just fascinating. I love the topiary people shapes too. Did they have any topiaries in the shape of any electronic devices?

Dear Jim, What an absolutely fascinating place and how splendid of you to share it with us through your pictures. All such fun. I especially like the 'boat' complete with rower and passengers, one soon to be complete with parasol.

Oooh, this is wonderful, Jim! So glad you snuck over there, away from the bright and shiny stuff. Winter is the best time to enjoy it too, nothing else to distract. They really did a great job too. Somewhere there is a reproduction of that painting, is this it? It seems to only be smaller vignettes.

That topiary is amazing, especially the ones in the water. A lot of time and effort has been well spent.

Did you ever meet the gardener that's responsible for those whimsical topiaries?? I have an idea that takes a lot more work than I could imagine... Do you suppose he prunes from a rowboat? ha!

Very close to where I live, there's a golf club that had a topiary figure of a golfer in mid swing. It was a huge beast of a thing. A few weeks back, it got stolen.

When I heard it on the news, I was fascinated at the idea of someone stealing a piece of topiary! The report said they would have needed at least three people and a flatbed lorry!

ah well at least the gardener clipping those bushes in the water does not have to clear up all the cuttings - he can just watch them floating away.

Love the comment about 'if there's water, I can find ducks'. And I laughed out loud about pruning. I'm not a fan of topiary at all so I figure the plants scream when anyone approaches them with pruners and shears.
