I think I fixed the hack

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. I have to apologize. My blog got hacked. I am clueless how this happened. Maybe the wireless at the hotel or at the conference wasn't as secure as I thought. Norton didn't find anything. Neither did any of the other stuff I rely on to keep me safe. There is a lesson in there some place. Let me know what it is. The Google forum suggested deleting third party gadgets. I deleted the snow fall effect from my blog. It seems to work. Please let me know through Blotanical. If need be, I can move the blog.

I have heard of people having problems like this. I have never been hacked; I'm not sure how I would recognize a hack. What happened to you?

I must have missed this, Jim, what happened? I don't like that snow widget at all because I've noticed if I leave my browser on a site with the 'snow' still happening, it raises the temperature of my computer quite a bit (I have a thermometer and fan control extension on my laptop to avoid heating issues). So I'm glad the widget is gone, but I'm sorry to hear you had problems and think you were hacked. You're probably fine here at Blogger. I've never heard of anyone being hacked or needing to move their blog, but maybe someone else can chime in on this.

Dear Jim, Everything appears to be as normal. What a worrying time you must have had.

Secretly, I am just a little bit glad that the snow effect has gone as it was, for me at least, a distraction. A sad reminder too of the winter past [at least in London].

Jim it is working fine now. The other day it was a mess and jumping all over the place like it was alive. LOL!

I hope your fix worked. Because I am looking forward to seeing your spring garden, once winter disappears :^)

Thank you all for your comments. I got real nervous about killing the blog and starting over if I couldn't fix the problem. Since the redirects were to ad sites, i figures that a third party gadget came with a timer. Well, so far, so good. I have to remember, no snow effects next year. I never thought to leave Blotanical. I was going to start another blog on blogspot.

Buggers, who goes out of there way to do stuff like this. I had a virus come and lock me out of my computer recently, very frustrating and you feel violated, glad you got it sorted.

That must have been so stressful, Jim. I am glad to hear the problem seems to have been fixed as I would hate for you to have to move your blog. (The idea of that much effort makes me shudder.)

Why do the hackers mess with us? Whatever are you doing to them, besides regaling us with interesting tales and lovely garden pictures?
