camping with the grobles

Pat and I spent a wonderful night camping last weekend. Not that sleeping bag, crawling in and out of tents, cooking over a wood fire kind of camping. We did plenty of that when we were younger. No, this was camping how it should be. We camped at Kridler Gardens in Homeworth Ohio. In the middle of a 100 acre wooded wonderland is this little cabin. Now you might say that what Pat and I were doing was more like staying in a really comfortable hotel. I say nay to that. There was no TV reception and we were in the middle of the woods. It got really, really dark when the sun went down. I had a flashlight, just in case, so it was camping. To top it off, it rained all night. Listening to the rain on the steel roof was very cool. It was a magnificently peaceful time.
Oh yeah, I couldn't’t resist. We went home with a couple of hibiscus, a tall coneflower (rudbeckia laciniata) and some more hosta.

Nay Jim - that was staying out at a Nursery, so you could plant shop for longer! A great location and a quiet weekend together that you both must have needed.

Looks like and sounds like a little slice of heaven to me ... with the bonus of being a nursery!!!

Dear Jim, Yes, this certainly looks like the kind of camping I could participate in. A delightful, fully operational cottage in the wood is indeed an ideal way to spend a weekend.

I do not know where you will find more space in your garden for Hostas, but was thinking of you in writing my latest posting about a certain Hosta named after Lady Isobel Barnett. Do you grow her?

What a lovely little cabin in the woods. Cozy and peaceful and I'm sure you both went home refreshed, and you bought some goodies for your gardens too.

Jim, as a child my friends and I used to dig a hole in the prairie across the street and cook out, or make a tent in the backyard and sleep out. But this is certainly my type of camping now. The area looks lovely.

Charming!! That is the way I like to camp too. Surrounded by wildlife and woods... the sounds must have been thrilling. ;>)

Jim, this is lovely. I'm so glad you and Pat got to get away and rest and soak up some peace and beauty. :)

I must say, though, you're making me feel as if my home qualifies for a "camping getaway." We, too, live in the woods, surrounded by trees on all sides, right up to the front door, just like in the pictures. And we don't have t.v. reception, either (by choice, of course). Guess we're living in perpetual retreat from the mad world. ;)

Wow, what a beautiful spot. Now that is my kind of camping. Better than a blanket thrown over a clothesline LOL!

groble style camping looks pretty good - I am still alas under canvas when it comes to sleeping out.

Anyone who says that's not camping is crazy. Because that's the only way to go about it.

Tent camping? Bah! Why would anyone want to subject themselves to that?

Besides, you had a flashlight. That's what really makes it camping lol :D
