so, when do pumpkin plants stop growing?

Just asking. I'm hoping that the plant reaches some kind of equlibrium before it takes over the yard. It has already blocked the sidewalk and has reached the driveway. Next year I'll plant it further away. There are 8 good sized pumpkins that we can see from the edge. The solar lights still work. How about that. I can't get to the water feature any more. It's in there someplace.

Pumpkins stop growing when the local rascals steal them the week before Halloween.

Nice looking pumpkin. I have not been able to grow pumpkins in south Texas.

My cucurbit plants have taken off despite my initial disasters. The largest pumpkin I have is currently around 12 feet across but shows no sign of slowing.

Good luck, they'll be cutting you out in October!

Twice, I have tried planting pumpkins, and something (or someone) stole them when they were very small, yours look great.

Jim, the pumpkin looks great. I was never successful growing pumpkins. I think the squirrels got them when they were small. Good luck, they should be peaking very soon.

I think I would worry when you wake up one morning and find your wife has been displaced from the place in bed next to you, and has been replaced by three pumpkins.

THEN it might be time to get out the weedwhacker.

I'm sorry to tell you that the last pumpkins I grew, in a patch on my grandfather's farm, didn't stop growing until October. You may be in for a fun time. ;)

Beautiful vines, though, Jim. I'm enjoying watching this intrepid volunteer go to it!

wow Jim they certainly are taking over the lawn now! By this rate once October comes you won't see a lawn. There must be some good muck in that soil of yours to have them grow like that.

Wow, that is an impressive pumpkin plant! Here is my experience: it grows madly in August, slows down a bit in September and finally stops in October. When there are 5-6 pumpkins per plant I am happy and I am quite brutal from then on: I just cut all the new growth off. The plant and the pumpkins don't suffer from this.
Let us know who wins: the pumpkin plant or you!

As I'm growing one for the first time I was wondering if I should stop the leader and let the side shoots grow?
