Hello, Goodbye, and a Baby Announcement.

It's always sad when a flower drops its last petal. Wouldn't it be neat if all our flowers held their blooms all spring and summer long? The tulips and daffodils are gone. The lilacs are on their last leg. Spring marches on. But, it's always very cool when you get the first bloom of another flower. We have our first day lily. I am clueless as to how many we have. It's a bunch, different kinds and sizes. Whenever we need some day lilies, we just split some off from wherever it's overgrown. Alas, the marsh marigold lost its last petal yesterday. The last flower came from a seedling, so this guy should expand pretty quickly.
Pat and I feed the animals. Some are invited like ducks and birds. Some aren't, like rabbits and deer. But, you can't get one without the other. Every year we are treated to baby ducks. It's fun to watch them running around the yard. When mama duck senses danger, they are off and running. The pic is out of focus because it was one of those, run quick, find the camera and get the pic.

Do you feel as though we're speeding right through Spring into Summer? And it's only the first part of May? Our temps are to be 35 degrees F tonight, and colder "up north." Hope you get by without this weather.

You know, there is just something about baby ducklings or baby chicks. I never tire of seeing them :-)

And who is getting the baby? I was really excited- Wow! a baby! Better, baby ducklings! LOL

I don't have any day lilies yet. I have nice buds on some, but I should have already had a lot of blooms. The roses outdid themselves this year, and the black eyed Susan was awe inspiring! Just gorgeous! I am anxious to see the DLs. We have lilies that are about to bloom too. Asiatics and some LAs.

I am so pleased that everything in my garden wasn't killed by our terrible winter. I found the Hawaiian Sunset vine today, and the Chalice vine. I was shocked to see them both.

Lovely to see that last little petal before it departs! The blurriness of the departing ducks only adds to their sense of haste to get away :D

Yes, it is sad when flowers finish their blooming cycle. Then we have to wait another whole year to enjoy their beauty once again.

I just love baby ducks and see them occasionally crossing a street when there's a lake nearby.

Enjoy your lovely gardens.

That duck has quite a brood there. Is there six? Babies are always the cutest things.
I hated to see the lilacs go too Jim. Was loving the fragrance in the yard. Hope you did not get any of that snow flying around up your way. I hope this is our last cold spell. I am ready to get outdoors and stay busy. You both have a great weekend or what is left of it.

Wow! Daylilies already? I forget that you are in a much warmer/earlier climate than I am. I do have some flower scapes on my earliest daylily, the yellow species Hemerocallis flava -- but it will be another few weeks before these bloom. Of course, if the blooms never faded and went away, we'd lose a lot of the magic of the garden. -Jean

Jim - I've been thinking about your blog a lot lately, as I think of you and Pat as the 'Royalty of Hostas'. I've just added quite a variety of 'gifted' hostas and am thrilled with the results (a future post!). Now I stop by and see your additions! Wonderful!! -Shyrlene

Ahh little ducklings - we will have them around here too only mama duck takes them walking down the middle of the road and that sure stops the traffic.

Lilac season hasn't even arrived here yet - but I can't wait for the daylilly season - I love them.

The garden is full of beginnings and endings, and it helps me to remember the whole world runs in a circle. :) How amazing it must be to have baby ducks in your backyard!

Day lilies say "summer" for sure. Your spring sure went quickly, Jim.
